Biden cancer diagnosis promotes free prostate projections on NYC-8 tips for the first half

The news that former President Joe Biden, 82, has been diagnosed in an “aggressive” manner of prostate cancer has sent shock waves throughout the country this week.

Although the five -year global survival rate of prostate cancer is 97% impressive, this number sinks to 37% once the disease extends to other parts of the body, according to the American Cancer Society.

Following Biden’s Bombshell announcement, Dr. David Shusterman, a council -certified urologist and founder of the modern urologist, offers support for neoyorcan people.

Shusterman provides specific prostate blood tests (PSA) (a key tool for prostate cancer screening) at its Midtown East office until the end of June.

Patients do not need insurance for the initial test, although monitoring may be required if PSA levels are again high.

Men interested in receiving projections can call (212) 991-9991 to reserve an appointment.

“When it takes time to check the phone, your supplier can screen that can make a significant difference for your future health,” Shusterman told The Post. “Encorgulleix -to take this step.”

Prostate cancer 101

Biden’s diagnosis was top -notch news, but prostate cancer is rare. It is the second most common cancer among the men in the United States, with 1 in 8 who are expected to face at some point in their lives, according to national health institutes.

And he is severe fatal, taking second place only for lung cancer in deaths related to cancer among American men.

While prostate cancer can produce at any age, the risk climbs with each birthday. Most cases are diagnosed after 65 years.

Some men face even stronger probabilities. Black men are disproportionately affected and are more likely to diagnose at a younger age with more aggressive forms of disease than other racial or ethnic groups.

Add to danger? Prostate cancer often grows slowly and has no symptoms in the early stages, which means that many men spend years without knowing that they have it.

When symptoms arise, other common prostate problems can imitate, such as a prostate or augmented prostatitis, according to the Mayo clinic.

Possible signs of early warning include:

  • Blood to the urine or semen
  • Frequent urination
  • Trouble starting to pee
  • Wake up -often at night to urinate

Once the cancer is moving forward, the symptoms may be more serious:

  • Accidental end of urine
  • Back or bone pain
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Weakness in the arms or legs

According to their personal trades, doctors diagnosed bid after starting to experiment with “increasing urinary symptoms”. A physical examination revealed a “small nodule” to its prostate, causing a later assessment.

When it is checked

Prostate cancer can be furtive, but early screening provides doctors the best opportunity to catch it when it is more treatable. Once the disease extends to the bones, as in the case of Biden, it becomes incurable.

Experts recommend that men begin to crib conversations with their doctors at the age of 50. But if you are black or you have a family background, start these discussions at the age of 40 or 45.

Most healthcare organizations do not advise the 70 -year -old projection because potential benefits are unlikely to exceed damage.

A prostate cancer screening usually includes a PSA blood test: high levels can be a sign of prostate inflammation, extension or cancer – and a digital rectal examination.

“This is the part that causes the most anxiety, but it is brief and generally painless,” said Shusterman.

“A technology of ultrasound inserts a small, lubricated probe to the rectum to visualize the prostate gland for the exact size and shape and irregularities, such as the growth of the prostate, in the bladder.”

Tips for the first projections

“It is completely normal to feel restless for the first prostate exam, but it is a sign of maturity and care of self-focus with him,” said Shusterman. His advice for men who undergo their first projections are displayed.
